WHO’S WHO: Contributors to The Catalog of Cool Online

DICK BLACKBURN co-wrote, directed and acted in the 1973 horror film Lemora and wrote the 1982 black comedy Eating Raoul. He wrote and directed for TV’s Tales from the Darkside and co-created the series Beakman’s World. He’s written for The Village Voice, The London Guardian, Evergreen Review, the Austin Chronicle and the L.A. Weekly.


KIM COOPER (Kitten with a Hip) edits Scram, an occasional journal of unpopular culture, and with David Smay corrals the contributors to pop anthologies like Bubblegum Is the Naked Truth and Lost in the Grooves: Scram’s Capricious Guide to the Music You Missed.

PERRY LANE contributed to the original Catalog of Cool and Too Cool and was a member of Napa Valley’s Idlers car club.

ALLEN "CHARMIN" LARMAN is producer and host of the Red Hot radio show on KCSN-FM.  He was also co-compiler of  the Chitlin' Circuit Soul compilation on Rhino Records and provided musical  research for the soundtrack to the film O' Brother Where Art Thou.  He presently serves as president of the Marvin Sease Fan Club.

BOB MERLIS is a regular contributor to Automobile magazine. He recently annotated ZZ Top’s boxed set Chrome, Smoke and BBQ and is working on a good all-around tan.

GENE SCULATTI (Editorial Top Cat) is the author of The Catalog of Cool, Too Cool, The 100 Best Selling Albums of the 60s and, with Davin Seay, San Francisco Nights: The Psychedelic Music Trip. With Ronn Spencer, he co-hosted and produced the radio shows The Cool & The Crazy (KCRW-FM, Santa Monica, 1984-88) and Unprovoked Attack (KPFK, Los Angeles, 1979-80).

DAVIN SEAY recently wrote about the last days of the Doors for Mojo magazine. He has penned biographies of Al Green and Snoop Dogg. The first installment of his serialized novel, The Purple, is now available at www.thepurple.net.

RONN SPENCER is a graphic designer and photographer. He was art director for the Sex Pistols' American advertising and merchandising campaign, and his clients have included Bug Music, E! Entertainment Television and Warner Bros. Records. Recently, he has taught design and photography at the University of Arizona and The Tucson Museum of Art School.
